T-Ball League

ATHLETICS 23 YANKEES 25

Both teams produced some excellent batting and fielding. It was a close match but the Yankees managed to get three out in the second innings.

CUBS 19 METS 14

The Cubs won their second encounter against the Mets.  The Cubs star player was Ethan Bills who took a brilliant fly ball catch and then a run out on the same play.  There was also strong batting from James Laker.

The weather was apalling but some good play was achieved.  Ella Hamlin managed to get 4 players out, 2 on first base and 2 on second base.  Zoe Eatwell and her fast running skills came into action and she managed to get 2 out from the pitcher position by running to Home Plate - excellent play.  James Gray and Joseph Menzies-White had fast throwing and catching skills from pitcher to first base also managing to get a player out. The game was great although rather wet!

AAA League

RED SOX 13 YANKEES 14

The Red Sox put up a brave performance in wet and windy conditions against the league leaders but just fell short, eventually losing the game 14 – 13. The Yankees were leading 4 – 3 at the end of the first innings and then neither team were able to score any runs in the second innings thanks to some brilliant fielding. The Yankees were leading 14 – 8 going into the final innings and the Red Sox fought back, scoring 5 runs to be trailing by a single run. With 2 outs and a runner at second base, Marcus Laker stepped up to bat and smashed a ball out to left field. Sensing it was a great hit, Marcus started to run towards first base but as he looked across the field he saw Jordan Crow, playing at third base, make one of the catches of the season diving to his left to make the third out and ensure the Yankees remained top of the table going into the final week of the AAA League season.

ATHLETICS V CUBS – GAME CANCELLED BEACAUSE OF RAIN

PMW Minor League

METS 15 CUBS 9

The Mets game today against the Cubs was as usual a closely fought affair, the usually buoyant and vociferous Mets B team ( parents etc) were unusually restrained as the A team fought hard to take a win from the opposition.  However, despite some fantastic fielding from the Cubs infielders, the Mets continually edged the run count upwards with a display of batting abilities that stunned the watching crowds.

Zoomie was the first to get home and start the run-fest closely followed by Shabs. The batting bonanza was continued with a beautiful hit from The Gazelle that comfortably brought her into first with the same feat carried out later by The Panda who got a lovely RBI for his effort.

At times the Mets were on fire with runs coming in thick and fast with great hits coming from Spreaders and Smiffy but the batting highlight of the day was 2....... YES 2 CONSECUTIVE HOMERUNS by JK and Spaniel.

When not batting, the Mets showed that they were not just plucky batters but were equally happy on the field, this was ably demonstrated with some evil displays from almost all of the team. In the 1st, Zoomie (pitcher) and Shabs (1st) closed the innings with some great gameplay, whilst in the 2nd, Shabs plucked a drive from the air and got it to Podman in time for a splendid double play. The display carried on into the 3rd with Zoomie taking a tag at 3rd to close the innings whilst in the 4th Shabs scooped a devilishly low ball for the first out then carried on to tag the 2nd out at 3rd and finished off with a  lovely pass to enable Podman to tag the 3rd runner out at 3rd base.

New faces were present in the batting cage today with a good show put in by The Gazelle, Ellz, Big Chris and Homezone and although no catches were made, new skills were learnt and confidences gained.

Another win for the Mighty Mets but three cheers must go to the Cubs for yet another great game. Smiles were present from both sides in the after game line-up so it must have been a success. As for the Mets, a well deserved week off.

Thanks again go to the fantastic supporters. No Mexican wave but there's always next time. A special thanks from everyone goes to Mrs Homezone for the cake, DELICIOUS!!!!!

RED SOX 17 YANKEES 6

We had a great game against the Yankees on Saturday, with the Red Sox winning 17-6. The Red Sox did some really good fielding in all innings with catches by Charlie Dineen (x2) , Austin Harwood-Stamper, Will Irvine, Miguel Rodriguez and Jared Cox. The Red Sox also batted very well and we saw some lovely hitting by Jake Harvey, Zak Turnbull, Jake Turnbull and Emily Burnie (Cubs AAA) who was asked to play because the Red Sox were short of players. The game ball was awarded to Charlie Dineen and was thoroughly deserved.

Time Well Spent Major League

METS 11 CUBS 4

A good win for the Mets in appalling weather conditions.  Will, Luke, James Holden and Jordan pitched, all striking out players and holding the cubs to one run until the sixth innings when they scored another 3 runs against us.  The Mets offensive play this week was much improved and by steady hitting and stealing of bases they managed to score 11 runs,  Tim hitting two doubles.  Catches were made by Daniel, Jordan and Luke.  There were some good outs by James Hamlin and Jordan at 1B.  This was a needed win as the Cubs beat us at our first meeting.
