The Athletics were edged by the Yankees 18-16 in a contest highlighted by fine defensive plays by both teams.
Josh Sayer had a double and three base hits and three runs scored in the leadoff slot, while Rhys Prescott drove in five runs with a bases-loaded triple and two singles. Sam Holt, Sam Kneale and Emily Burnie all teamed up to make some great put-outs in a game that saw the A's get at least two outs on the pin-stripes in every inning and three outs in three of the five innings.

Mets report
Yet again the Mighty Mets have battered their way to a close win, the game against the A's was hard fought and at times success looked to be just a glimmer on the horizon, fortunately, the team pulled together when required and dragged victory from the snarling jaws of defeat thanks to a fantastic hit by Spreaders that allowed The Home Zone to live up to his name and give us the much needed winning run.
The A's put up a fight to end them all, but the dogged Mets showed their maturity and kept their chins up with some amazing gameplay.
On the batting front, Podman slogged the ball through the centre to get his first ever clean run to 3rd with an unorthodox but never to be forgotten Butt slide onto base.
Infield, the newly formed trio of Shabs, Spaniel and Zoomie were on form taking out the opposition with some great plays whilst Ells made a great tag at 3rd and later a catch at 2nd to the delight of the ever present band of supporters. The gazelle joined the catchers club for the first time and along with Big Chris showed off some great moves in the backstop whilst Mad Max and Panda started to find their feet in the outfield with some great recoveries back into the diamond to stop play.
As the season progresses, the team is not the only group to find their feet and pull together, the B team is coming along nicely on the other side of the fencing and is much appreciated by the A team.
Yankees report
The Yankees started well with 5 runs scored in their first innings with great hits form Katie Hamer, Matthew Griffiths and Calza Budd- (who could have got a double or treble if his mad mum hadn't kissed him at first base!!)
Daniel cannons and Jasmine Rushin were great in the field during the second innings. During the 4th innings the Casey Brothers-(James and Daniel) were great batting and fielding.
The match ball went to Coral Mulligan who just keeps going from strength to strength.
The final score was Cubs 12- Yankees 17

Mets Report
The Mets were solidly beaten by the Athletics, even though our pitchers Will, Tim and Jordan struck out
11 players between them. Jordan made a catch as CF and covered 1B as pitcher in the sixth for an out. Our newest players Daniel, Michael and Max made outs as S/S, 3B and 1B fielders. Congratulations to all three of you. Will tagged a player out at Home Plate. Our best performance at bat was by Tim for his first triple of the season and Michael came home to score our second run. The last three innings were pitched by Zack Chambers from whom no runs were scored. The Athletics were too great for us on this occasion.
Athletics Report
The A’s increased their winning streak to 6 games against the Mets on Saturday. Ben Chambers pitched a superb first ever inning to keep the Mets down to 1 run allowing the offence to take over and grab a 12 – 2 lead at the half way stage. Triples from Aaron Webster and Zack Chambers were major factors in the scoring surge to turn the game in the A’s favour along with great hitting from Harry Garman, Guy Packham and Jacob Waller. In the field the defence was very efficient allowing the Mets few opportunities to come back. Zack Chambers picked up 8 strike outs over the last 3 innings to seal an excellent win against a good team keeping the A’s unbeaten run going.
Yankees Report
A great game played in good spirits between two teams quire closely matched. Unfortunately, the Yankees came off second best, with poor defensive work in the third innings, created a mountain to climb. However, the determined Yankees did climb a huge mountain and in the next innings at bat scored 7 runs to bring the game to a tie with one innings left. The resilient Cubs scored in the next innings to deny the Yankees a chance to grab victory out of the jaws of defeat. It's very hard to distinguish who stood out as a top player for the Yankees, as a great team effort was made by all, but newcomer Josh Budd, continued with a great display of fearless batting and helped to drive home some RBI's whilst maintain a high batting average for only his second game. Let's hope we can bring this game's spirit into the Red Sox game and maybe lady luck will be on our side when we need it.
