Athletics report
Game 5 for the A’s on this beautiful sunny day at the Ben Vodden fields. Red Sox are up to bat first and strait away they punish the A’s by getting the maximum 5 runs. Not to be outdone the A’s get 5 as well with runs for Elliott Webster, Adam Tod, Toby Goddard (hitting a fantastic double and an R.B.I), Will Anderson (also hitting a double and getting 2 R.B.I’s) and Charlie Bonella.
Top of the 2nd and the Red Sox keep piling on the pressure getting another 5 runs, the A’s only managed to get 1 out when Will Anderson picked up a groundball at shortstop and threw to Uilleam Lynch at 2nd base. Bottom of the 2nd and the A’s are not going down without a fight. Sian Collinson, Elliott Webster, Adam Tod, Toby Goddard and Charlie Bonella all score to give the A’s maximum runs to square the game at ten apiece.
Top of the 3rd and it’s like a tidal wave of runs as the Red Sox get yet another 5 runs. The A’s only managing to get 1 out again with Elliott Webster catching a fly ball at pitcher. Bottom of the 3rd and the A’s are on the back foot, only getting 2 runs from Elliott Webster and Sian Collinson.
Top of the 4th and the A’s fielding machine kicks in with Elliott Webster getting 2 unassisted outs at 3rd base and Will Anderson making a great catch at pitcher and allowing the Red Sox only 1 run. Bottom of the 4th and the A’s are still in a confident mood. Uilleam Lynch gets the 1st run after hitting a great double, Ross Williams makes it 2. Elliott Webster makes it 3, then up steps Daniel Sampford who hits a cracking treble to make it all square and also bag himself a couple of R.B.I’s.
Top of the 5th and the Red Sox can find no way through the A’s fielder’s. A great play between Ross Williams at pitcher and Charlie Bonella at 2nd gets the 1st out, an infield fly gets the 2nd and Ross Williams is there again to launch a ball into the safe hands of Callum Nash at 1st. All out for zero and everything to play for in the bottom of the 5th in this thrilling match. Will Anderson is up to bat and gets to 1st,Charlie Bonella gets Will to 2nd,Callum Nash Gets Will to 3rd and Uilleam Lynch strikes the ball that gets Will home and the A’s the win.
All in all a great game with everyone playing well and really trying hard. All the Red Sox should be proud of their ability and team spirit I know I am.
Red Sox report
It was a really exciting and very close game on Saturday with the Red Sox and Athletics neck and neck in the first two innings.
The first innings saw some great batting by the Red Sox team. Charlie Dineen and Jared Cox, in particular hit some great balls leading to 5 runs scored by the Red Sox. Athletics followed suit with a maximum score of 5 runs even though Austin Harwood-Stamper made two great catches in the first innings.
Red Sox continued with the pressure in the second innings scoring 5 runs. A wonderful Home run by Charlie brought home 3 other runners then Jared brought home Ally Kirkman to turn the innings around. Athletics also made maximum score with great batting even though the Red Sox were hot in the field. Zack Turnbull made a great play on 3rd taking the last batter out.
The Red Sox continued to bat well into the third innings making 5 runs again. Max Dodd, Jake Turnbull, Christian Taylor-Ferre and Dennon Uttley all batted consistently but it was Charlie who again brought three runners home. Athletics were held to 2 runs in this innings with another great catch by Austin (MVP this week for a hat trick) and a catch by Jared on first base.
By the fourth innings Red Sox were feeling the heat. Even though Jared hit a triple the Red Sox were dismissed with only 1 run scored. Athletics rallied their team and scored 4 runs whilst Red Sox fielded consistently with a good catch by Max and a good play between Jake (Pitcher) and Austin (Catcher).
So as we entered the fifth and final innings the score was tied. Red Sox batting first found themselves unable to score any runs with Jared falling foul of the infield flyball rule. Athletics only needed one run to win the game and were given that by Will Anderson to finish the game.
Mets report
Todays game was a bit of a worry for the Mets, the Yankees have been noted for putting in a performance when the pressure is on and today was no exception, unfortunately, due to holidays the Mets were a few key players down but still managed to maintain the strength and ability to hold out against the opposition.
Early in the game Spreaders managed to pull off an amazing catch in the foul area, a feat that was later repeated by Ellz in the same spot, Podman, whilst trying his hand at short stop for the first time pulled off a wicked catch and turned it into a double with a sprint to second, Spaniel caught a whopper at second for another out, Shabs caught two high balls for outs and Big Chris broke his catchers duck by plucking the ball from the air in the 3rd innings.
The Mets batting was as couragous as ever with every player putting in a fine performance, Panda and the Gazelle's batting was strong but were unfortunately out at first through good fielding, Homezone got to 2nd with a good connection, Zoomie hit a corker over the short stop bringing runners home but the batting moment of the day was Mad Max getting a triple with a smashing ball to the centre outfield to bring others home with him.
The fifth innings brought with it white knuckles and chewed lips as the game was so tight, the coaches were sweating but not just from the heat, the Mets needed 3 outs straight away to force an extra innings with the score standing at 12-12, the team pulled tight and got what was needed but had the possibility of a further win taken from them by lack of time and umpires, is this a fair way to end a game?, I don't know but I suppose a draw is better than a loss and we still have 3 games to go.
As usual the level of support was fantastic from the parents and relatives and is much appreciated, the kids get a great sense of pride from showing their skills as individuals to their families and as coaches we take pride in seeing it happen with the kids growing in confidence as a result.
Yankees report
During the first innings- Daniel Cannons and Jasmine Rushin got a great out at 1st. James Casey produced a great catch. Callum Budd wacked the ball to get a double and bring 2 runners home.
During the second Katie Hamer and Anna Kettle both hit the ball good!! Coral Mulligan showed some awesome fielding.
Jessica Hart got an RBI in the 4th innings.
During the open innings Matthew Griffiths caught a ball as catcher, Jack Clark and James Casey teamed up for a great out on first and Daniel Casey produced a wicked catch.
Final score 12- 12. A great game to be part of. The teams did everyone proud.

Mets Report
Our second win of the season, achieved by determination at bat and in the field. All players achieved great things at bat seeing them all on a base at some point through the game with runs being made by Michael, Tim, James Holden, Jordan, Adam and Luke. Batting practise pays off as the improvement has shown week by week. Many of the outs were fought for by the fielders which again showed the spirit of the team. James Hamlin creating two unassisted outs at 1B, as did Will at 1B and James Holden at 2B. Chris and Jordan were on fine form pitching and struck out 9 players between them and also were seen to catch out 4 players. Keep up the good work Mets a challenging game awaits us on Saturday against the unstoppable A's.
Athletics Report
The A's and The Red Sox produced the game of the season on Saturday. The A's raced into a 6 - 0 lead after 2 innings only to find themselves 8 - 6 behind after 3.The A's pulled another run back by the end of the 5th to set up a tense finale. Zack Chambers shut down The Red Sox offense leaving The A's needing 2 runs to win. Doubles from Harry Garman and Christian Williams were enough to see The A's secure a fantastic last gasp victory. Other heroes on the day were Ben Chambers with a double play and Jacob Waller who pitched his first ever game. The whole team is to be congratulated for their never say die spirit and for playing to the very end.
