The Athletics ground out a well earned victory against the Mets last Saturday to extend their winning streak.
Impressive pitching from Zack Chambers ensured the Mets were scoreless for the first 3 innings.
He was backed up superbly by Aaron Webster and Matthew Sampford as catchers.
The game was changed in the third inning when Simon Lawrence avoided a tag at home plate to score and get the A’s moving with the play of the game.
The A’s batting then came to life with Adam Gurcan, Harry Garman and Liam Collinson all hitting runs and RBI’s
At the finish the score was 10 – 5 to the A’s with an inning to spare
Mets v Athletics 5 - 10
Mets turned out with only 9 players and played their hardest against the currently unbeatable A's. Chris Nicholson pitched and held the A's to zero runs until the 3rd innings when they scored 4. The Mets came back in the 4th innings managing to score one run but then the A' s scored another 3 against Tim Moore pitching. By the 5th innings the Mets were fired up and scored 4 runs, but again the A's scored 3 against James Holden pitching, winning the game by 10 runs to 5. Mets run scorers were Tim Moore 2, Harry Moore, Luke Sutton and Chris Nicholson 1 each. James Holden did a massive hit creating a GBD.

Game Report – Cubs Minors – July 12, 2008
The minor league game on July 12, 2008 between the Cubs and the Yankees was an exciting match with the Cubs winning with the score of 16 to 13. At the beginning of the fifth, with the score 10 to 6 for the Yankees, the Cubs showed their mettle by firing us the bats to score ten runs! All the Cubs players continue to develop individually, improving the strength of the Cubs as a team. In particular, Luke Edwards and Megan Field demonstrated their enhanced baseball skills, in both hitting and fielding.
Our latest game against the formidable Athletics was yet another in a line of hard fought battles, thought by many observers to be our closest yet and not just in score. Every inch and advantage was won and not given and there were times when our advantage looked to be in jeopardy, however, the tenacity of the team showed through and heels were dug in to provide another blinding performance by the Mighty Mets.
As usual there were improvements in every player and new confidences were found, uncovered and put to good use, Shabs, Pod, Zoomie, Hamster and Spaniel all did well on first, Maximus, Big Chris and Els pulled off a couple of brilliant stops each on third, Smiffy tended second base well and Liam ( no nickname as yet but working on it), JK, Home Zone, Spreaders et al did us proud in the outfield with great stops and throws and some cross field sprints from the gazelle added to the excitement,
Although there was a good display of batting from the team which produced a couple of doubles, the highlight of the day was a fantastic smash into the outfield from the Spaniel that brought Zoomie, Els and JK home with him to great crowd approval and tumultuous roars of approval from the dedicated band of supporters present.
It should be added at this point that the presence of this dynamic band at each game adds greatly to the success of the team and is very much appreciated by both myself and the kids.
Week 4, game 3 for the Mets and Athletics in this hugely anticipated top of the table clash.
The Mets started strong with 3 quick runs. But then Tom Johnston took a great fly ball to get the 1st out, the innings ended with a couple of strike outs for the Mets. Bottom of the 1st and the A’s start well with runs for Will Anderson, Callum Oldmeadow (hitting a double), Charlie Bonella (hitting a double and getting 2 R.B.I’s), Callum Nash and Uilleam Lynch.
Top of the 2nd and the Mets get the big guns out, getting a home run with the base’s loaded. The A’s only manage to get one runner out with Elliot Webster throwing to Charlie Bonella on 1st, the Mets go on to get the maximum 5.Botom of the 2nd and the A’s only manage to get 2 runs, when Will Anderson hits a treble to get Sian Collinson and Toby Goddard home.
3rd innings and the Mets punish the A’s with another 5 runs. The A’s stay in the game and keep the pressure up by getting another 3 runs from Uilleam Lynch, Tom Johnston and Alex Reed.
In the 4th the A’s fielding steps up a gear and Charlie Bonella gets 2 runners out at 2nd base. The Mets manage to get 1 run, and then Callum Nash makes a fantastic catch at shortstop to end the Mets innings. Bottom of the 4th and the A’s can only manage 1 run from Will Anderson.
In to the 5th innings for a nail biting finally, and again the A’s fielders are in top form, with Ross Williams getting a runner out at 2nd and Will Anderson catching a brilliant fly ball at short-stop, allowing the Mets only1 run. With the game on a knife –edge the pressure gets to the A’s batters. With 2 strikeouts the A’s chances of a 3rd win start to fade; a catch by the Mets pitcher ends the game.
A really gutsy performance from the A’s. Fantastic stuff
